Endovenous Laser Treatment
For extensive varicose veins, we utilize endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) as an alternative to surgery. This procedure closes the affected vein by delivering laser energy through a small puncture in the leg. EVLT requires no anesthesia, is performed in our office, and takes approximately one hour to complete. Dr. Geller has performed over 3000 of these procedures.
ENDOVENOUS LASER TREATMENT BENEFITS
Minimally Invasive:
It requires only a small incision, unlike traditional vein stripping surgery, which involves several larger incisions.
The procedure is less invasive than surgery, as the affected veins are sealed off rather than physically removed.
Reduced Discomfort and Faster Recovery:
Patients typically experience less pain compared to surgical options.
Recovery time is generally shorter, often allowing patients to return to their routine within one to two days.
Most individuals can resume light activities immediately after the procedure and are encouraged to walk to promote circulation.
Strenuous activities are usually avoided for a couple of weeks.
Excellent Cosmetic Outcomes:
EVLT results in minimal scarring due to the small incision.
It effectively reduces or eliminates the visible bulging of varicose veins, resulting in positive cosmetic outcomes that are often comparable to or superior to those achieved with surgery.
High Success Rate and Long-Term Effectiveness:
The procedure boasts a high initial success rate, with studies reporting vein closure in a significant majority of cases.
Long-term results are generally excellent, with a low recurrence rate in treated veins.
Local Anesthesia:
EVLT is typically performed using local anesthesia, eliminating the risks associated with general anesthesia.
Reduced Risk of Complications:
Compared to traditional surgery, EVLT is associated with fewer complications.
Symptom Relief:
EVLT helps alleviate common symptoms of varicose veins, including aching, heaviness, swelling, itching, and leg cramps.
Improved Circulation:
By closing off the faulty veins, blood flow is redirected to healthy veins, improving overall circulation in the legs.
It’s important to note that while EVLT is effective for treating existing varicose veins, it does not prevent the formation of new ones. Some individuals may require additional treatments in the future.
